The start of a new era…

What is ARES?

ARES is the official robot of FRC 9023 for the CHARGED UP (2022-23) season.

Creatively designed with 4 degrees of freedom, it earned the moniker of “never let them know your next move”.
Coding this was no easy task, with several sub-systems having to coordinate to get the act together.

Specifications

ARES has a SDS MK4i based Swerve Drivetrain with L3 gearing (fastest). This drive-train achieves a speed of 18 ft/sec and is configured with custom height for the swerve modules, to make climbing the charging station significantly easier. ARES has a custom intake/delivery mechanism with 4 Degrees of Freedom provided by the Elevator, Arm, Wrist and Flipper. There are contingencies built-in for failure of Elevator, Arm and Flipper.

The Elevator is driven by 2 x Falcon 500 motors with a 9:1 gearbox while the
Arm lifted by 2 x Falcon 500 motors with a final gear ratio of 100:1.
The Wrist is moved by 1 x Falcon 500 motor with a gear ratio of 100:1, and our Flipper driven by 1 x Falcon 500 motor with a gear ratio of 25:1.
We have a Wheel-based intake mechanism based on Robonaut’s published design, using a 775 motor.
